Iceberg chart
An iceberg chart (also called an iceberg tier list or iceberg meme) is a ranked diagram that places familiar, surface-level examples of a topic above an imaginary waterline and progressively obscure, niche, or extreme examples below it. The metaphor treats popular knowledge as the visible tip of an iceberg and specialised lore as the submerged mass.
Iceberg charts spread widely on Reddit, YouTube, and imageboards in the 2010s–2020s as a format for music genres, games, internet history, and local culture. They are informal editorial artefacts—not scientific taxonomies—and should be described with attribution to the chart creators when a specific chart is discussed.
