Lost media

Lost media refers to films, broadcasts, games, advertisements, websites, or other works that are missing, incomplete, or publicly inaccessible, and to the hobbyist communities that search for them. The phrase is also used more loosely for obscure uploads that are merely hard to find.

Overlap with icebergs

Lost-media items frequently appear on mid-to-deep tiers of topic iceberg charts, and entire charts exist for "lost media icebergs." YouTube iceberg and adjacent commentary channels often dedicate segments to recovery stories, partial finds, and confirmed destructions.

Methods and sources

Serious lost-media work relies on archives (e.g. library deposits, Wayback Machine captures), former staff testimony, and catalogue numbers—not on chart folklore alone.
